The Pee Wee Herman Show Original Cast Recording (1981)

Well before movies and TV,
'The Pee-Wee Herman Show' was a stage production that grew from characters created by Paul Reubens and his fellow members of the L.A. improv comedy group,
The Groundlings.

As the show gained popularity, it moved from the Groundlings Theater to the Roxy Theater, where this album was recorded in June of 1981.

⬅ The record is a one-sided clear picture disc featuring artwork by Gary Panter.

(Panter would later win three Emmy Awards for his innovative work as set designer on
'Pee-Wee's Playhouse'.)

FYI: The show excerpts and musical numbers on the LP might make more sense to anyone familiar with the stage production.
If you've not seen it, I can heartily recommend the videotaped performance that originally ran on HBO.

Plus, as a bonus, the 'exit theme' archived as a separate track:
John Paragon - Volare Pee-Wee

(Just lately I've been digging out some other old Pee-Wee stuff I've had for years. You'll likely be able to see some of it here in the near future. Stay tuned...)

Thanks Pinkie!

For just the next few weeks, that Billy Nayer tune is included in the 'Big Annoying Xmas Special #2' hovering over in the sidebar...

Have at it!

Trivia note: one of the members of the "Pee-Wee Chorale" is "Jenji Kohan", who most likely is the same person who created cult cable-TV fave Weeds.

Excellent post. This Playhouse fan thanks you.
